Jun 15, 2017 at 20:13 comment added ZenoArrow @SoylentGray Here are a couple more links:news.com.au/world/middle-east/… reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-qatar-idUSKBN13L0X7 Note that Qatar is/was openly funding rebel groups in Syria. What reasons would they have to do so?
Jun 15, 2017 at 16:04 comment added SoylentGray @ZenoArrow - yes those would be great additions to the answer.
Jun 15, 2017 at 11:12 comment added ZenoArrow @SoylentGray What evidence would you be looking for? Would the proposed pipeline + Assad blocking it + other countries being frustrated with Assad suffice? Or do you want a quote from a military leader along the lines of "we're creating chaos in Syria to make a profit"? If you're waiting for the latter, you'll be waiting a long time. Also, note that I didn't say it was the only reason for the war, I said it was part of the reason. Additionally, one point worth noting is Russia's involvement in Syria. Why are the Russians supporting Assad? Again, I'd suggest it's partly to do with gas exports.

Apr 12, 2017 at 15:31 comment added SoylentGray I am not going to argue with you about those(though i could) there needs to be evidence that this is the motive for this instance.
Apr 12, 2017 at 15:26 comment added dotancohen @SoylentGray: Obviously I agree with you in general. See the US involvement in the Banana Republics, or Iran (1953) or Kuwait, or Iraq elsewhere where stated US policy differed from the real reasons that the US got involved with the internal affairs of other states.
Apr 12, 2017 at 15:03 comment added SoylentGray @dotancohen - This is not supposed to be Conspiracy Theories SE (Though that would be alot of fun) this is supposed to be about hard facts and answers.
Apr 12, 2017 at 14:31 comment added dotancohen @SoylentGray: Even if it is only speculation, it is well-founded and plausible. Everything from climate change (plausible) to the Israeli right (inconceivable) have been implicated in the Syrian war. I wouldn't put Big Oil beyond plausibility.
