Jan 14, 2019 at 2:18 comment added Criticizing Israel not allowed @Acccumulation Are you saying some deaf people consider themselves better off deaf than if they weren't deaf?
Oct 7, 2017 at 19:48 comment added Acccumulation @HopelessN00b Cochlear implants replace the function of the cochlea, a part of the ear. An ocular implant would be something for the eye. And this isn't a very good example to begin with, as the issue is disagreement as to what's good for the group, rather than simply acting against what's good for the group.
Jul 23, 2017 at 9:50 comment added jpmc26 Irrespective of whether this answer or @indigochild is correct about the connection between collectivism and identity politics, this answer certainly doesn't make a good case for itself. A downvote on that basis alone is not unwarranted.
Jul 23, 2017 at 0:31 comment added user1450877 @indigochild maybe there's identity politics out there that does follow the Marxist class based paradigm. But I've not seen or heard about it yet.
Jul 21, 2017 at 21:35 comment added HopelessN00b @indigochild the fact that groups are composed of individuals doesn't negate the fact that groups are also distinct entities themselves that often act in ways that are detrimental to the individuals that make up the group. "Group dynamics", in other words. I'm reminded of an incident where a US-based association for the deaf found some pretense to officially oppose ocular implant research - the real reason being the fear that a universal "cure" for deafness would render the organization obsolete.

Jul 21, 2017 at 18:41 comment added indigochild Downvoted. Identity politics is not about collectivism. Additionally, this answer lacks any external references to back up its claims.
