Sep 18, 2022 at 10:41 comment added Karl Knechtel @StuartF "anti-LGBT teachings" have nothing to do with conservatism, in the same way that modern queer theory has nothing to do with Marxism. The idea that "the rich should help the poor" is inherently left-wing. It just doesn't necessarily meet your purity test, nor do the people espousing it.
Sep 18, 2022 at 10:32 comment added Stuart F The Salvation Army isn't left-wing: it doesn't support compulsory redistribution of wealth or an increased role for the state. It has a long history of conservatism: it is well known for anti-LGBT teachings. There is a tradition of Christian thought that accepts that the poor and the rich are always with us, but the rich should help the poor without upsetting the social order. Calling it left-wing is like calling a charitable donation by a billionaire "left-wing".
