Looking over the answers, most of the top rated ones seem to have been suffering badly from normalcy bias, assuming Putin was just saber-rattling and didn't actually want to go to war. This one on the other hand explains why he wanted a a war, and has thus held up quite well. +1 for standing the test of history. | |

That doesn't contradict a perception of "lack of guts" to carry things through, but it might also be a question of different stakes. "The West" would like to see a western-style capitalist democracy in Russia, while Putin is desperate to prevent another "sell-out" of Russia. | |
