Feb 17, 2023 at 21:09 | comment | added | Joe W | @blobbymcblobby That may be but the article that was linked says they declined to comment on it.
Feb 17, 2023 at 20:46 | comment | added | blobbymcblobby | Just read an article that said it did.
Feb 17, 2023 at 20:42 | comment | added | NoDataDumpNoContribution | I'm confused. The cited article seems to contradict itself because it also says "The NSC declined to comment on whether the U.S. was tracking the Chinese balloon since it was launched.". Did the US track the balloon from launch or not??
Feb 17, 2023 at 19:58 | comment | added | Joe W | @candied_orange I am looking for information from the article that being used to get the answer to be put in the answer. As it is just saying that it was tracked and pointing to a link isn't a very useful answer as users should not be expected to visit a third party site to understand an answer. There is now an edit to the question that does provide the information that I was asking for.

Feb 17, 2023 at 18:58 | comment | added | candied_orange | @Joe W Explain it how? Define what the word tracking means? What are you looking for? Is it in the article somewhere?
Feb 17, 2023 at 18:54 | comment | added | Joe W | @candied_orange I am expecting to see something from the source to explain the answer. As it stands this is a link only answer that provides no real value besides saying to go look at this for an answer.
Feb 17, 2023 at 18:53 | comment | added | candied_orange | @JoeW The disconnect may be you're expecting to see a cited quote from the article rather than the summation and link that it is now. I agree that the former would be better but your comment didn't really spell that out. Please let us know if I've got your meaning right.
Feb 17, 2023 at 16:43 | comment | added | Joe W | I am confused, my comment is asking you to put information from the link into your answer not saying that it didn’t answer the question.
Feb 17, 2023 at 16:21 | comment | added | Joe Gayetty | @JoeW I think Dean MacGregor was saying that my answer DID include the answer to the OPs question. He was saying he didn't agree with your comment saying otherwise. I must say that I agree with him. The US saw the balloon launch from China. That IS the answer to the OPs question. But you are entitled to your opinion as well.
Feb 17, 2023 at 13:17 | comment | added | Joe W | @DeanMacGregor My comment was asking for information from the link to be included in the question, not sure what you are talking about with your comment.
Feb 17, 2023 at 10:57 | comment | added | Dean MacGregor | @JoeW What part of US tracking it from its launch in China doesn't answer the question "How did the US know it was Chinese?". If the counter is, well it could have been someone else that brought it to China to launch from there then no answer is going to be good enough because you could always fall back on, well it could have been someone else that did that to make it look like China was the owner/launcher/etc.
Feb 15, 2023 at 21:21 | comment | added | Joe W | Please include information from the link in your answer so that people don't need to leave the site to get a basic idea of your answer.
