Dec 9, 2023 at 6:25 comment added Wag the mainstream media dog @JamesK they did wear blue helmets: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutchbat Peacekeeping units are typically formed on a national basis - those in the southern Lebanon are Italians, if I am not mistaken.
Dec 8, 2023 at 22:05 comment added James K @RogerV. They would be defended by soldiers of a particular nation or nations, authorised by the UN. Not by blue helmets
Dec 8, 2023 at 9:06 comment added Wag the mainstream media dog @SJuan76 you seem to mix annexation and occupation - so far Israel is not intending even to do even the latter.
Dec 8, 2023 at 9:05 comment added Wag the mainstream media dog @JamesK "the role of UN troops is not to defend a region" - what about declared safe areas, like Srebrenica?

Nov 23, 2023 at 12:46 comment added SJuan76 Frame challenge: the issue would not be "defending" (in the case Israel does not want to annex it, there seems no one interested in conquering that piece of land) but "administering" it. How would the local population receive an occupation force? Would that occupation force need to perform police duties against Hamas and other groups'remants? Think of Irak or Afghanistan after the US interventions, in neither case there was a direct attack by a foreign power but it did turn into a nightmare nonetheless...

Nov 23, 2023 at 8:07 comment added 264 champagne bottles on ice There was a prior Q here about UNIFIL. IIRC their field commanders considered the resolution political bluster relative to the means given to them and the structure of their force.
Nov 23, 2023 at 7:34 comment added James K As stated the answer is no, because the role of UN troops is not to defend a region. But if you are willing to consider "US troops under a UN mandate", then look at South Korea.
