Oct 2 at 2:26 | comment | added | JonathanReez | @IVFcomesfromthetip it's just adds more humiliation for Iran: the rockets killed 1 person... a Palestinian. Now watch a ton of Iranian infrastructure get obliterated rapidly by Israel with Iranians having no power to stop it due to having severely outdated technology. A complete victory for Israel once again.

Oct 1 at 0:27 | comment | added | JonathanReez | @ItalianPhilosopher Based off what Israel is doing in Gaza, I suspect they're going for a scorched earth approach this time around. Anyone can be broken down if you apply enough violence, only question is how much violence is needed to bring south Lebanon down on their knees...
Oct 1 at 0:23 | comment | added | Italian Philosopher | @JonathanReez There is a difference between suffering a - massive - military setback and meek submission. Also, it's early days. I suspect this will not always be easy going for the IDF and I rather doubt Israel's goal of decisive victory, as stated on another answer, will be achieved. At a guess? Some level of back and forth until both are tired and call it quits - Hezbollah will not get rooted out. But, yes, so far Hezbollah has not been doing well, that's a fact.
Sep 30 at 20:35 | comment | added | JonathanReez | Hezbollah would lose face, massively, in Lebanon => didn't they already massively lose face? I can't name a bigger public humiliation in the past 50 years. To have your entire chain of command taken out or turned into paraplegics followed by the Supreme Leader's death is as bad as it possibly gets. Hezbollah would have to manage to kill at least a few hundred Israelis to save face, which is pretty much impossible given the disparity in technological development. Iran was likewise humiliated into oblivion when they failed to respond to Israel's missile attack.

Sep 29 at 21:42 | comment | added | 264 champagne bottles on ice | @NoDataDumpNoContribution: nope; after much haggling it was put under chapter 6. Also, one of the more obscure points is that UNFIL can't go anywhere where the LAF doesn't want them to go. Which in practice is any site that Hezbollah deems 'sensitive'.

Sep 29 at 20:37 | comment | added | Italian Philosopher | @NoDataDumpNoContribution I think I answered this or something related in the past. AFAIK the UN said at the time that they were not equipped or tasked with enforcement of 1701, beyond acting as a separation/observer force.
Sep 29 at 20:15 | comment | added | NoDataDumpNoContribution | Just out of curiosity, what is the enforcement mechanism in resolution 1701? Is there real force involved?
