Is the Twitter account @realDonaldTrump a parody account, or is it actually controlled by Donald Trump?

Poe's Law: "it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers or viewers as a sincere expression of the parodied views". This also applies in reverse.

That's his real account. It is linked from his campaign website.

It is also listed as his account by media sites. E.g. Newsweek.

Worth adding that a statistical analysis of that accounts activity supports that tweets sent from Android are from him and tweets from IPhone are from his staffers. varianceexplained.org/r/trump-tweets

@ChemicalEngineer that was via the Twitter website. The iPhone/Android split is a more recent thing but it def fits his post style.

Twitter places a "verified" checkmark on accounts that have gone through a review process and verified to be who they claim to be. @realDonaldTrump possesses this verification.

You'll also find major media organizations citing this account as his.

Not really sure, but based on the following, it seems a valid account:

  • direct name account redirection: @donaldtrump redirects to @realDonaldTrump
  • followers: almost 20M
  • verified account sign: it's there (blue check near the name)
