There is currently (October 2019) a social and political crisis affecting Chile, where mass demonstrations are demanding change to the government. The militarisation of the conflict by the government (state of emergency, curfew) increased existing violence, with groups of "lumpen" trying to benefit themselves through looting. Amid this state of things, many people, including some opposition politicians, are calling for the president to resign. Yet, what are the legal implications of this? Does the vice-president assume power? Does the cabinet change? Is there a call for new elections?
