What would likely happen if the U.S. president loses re-election, and then refuses to accept the result?

After noon on Inauguration Day, the Secret Service kicks him out of the White House :-) Seriously, it doesn't matter whether the President accepts the results or not. What matters is whether he can get a sufficient fraction of Congress, the military, and the general public to go along with his non-acceptance. If he can, he's just pulled off a coup. If not, his best case is that everyone just ignores him. Otherwise he could find himself in jail, or perhaps an insane asylum.

  • @jamesqf, actually, I suspect the Metro Police will arrest him for trespassing.
