When internal DNC emails were leaked, it was revealed that several members of the party leadership (most notably then DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz) were working against Sanders candidacy, which created a scandal that ultimately saw Schultz resign. Sanders lost the DNC nomination to Clinton.
