I am a retired astronomy professor who became interested in corrections (community supervision, jails and prisons) more or less by chance in 2000 and since then have accumulated a fairly large amount of corrections data. I also have served on advisory committees for the county jail and community corrections.
One of the things I have learned is that contradictory statements about corrections are a feature not a bug because of the complex nature of the subject. An unfortunate outcome is that some people believe that false statements are true and true statements are false and that makes it very difficult to make improvements to corrections.
